Built in 1902, by Hiram Salls, the Howard National Bank was erected at 116 Church Street in a true builder, maker, doer spirit. Hiram was a well known stone mason & builder whose impact on Burlington includes a number of well known buildings and an extensive brick sewer system for the City of Burlington.

120 years after the construction of 116 Church Street, Northfield Savings Bank now occupies the building, utilizing the space as a marketplace banking hall and offices. Inspiration for the current renovation was pulled from the 1902 builder, maker, doer approach by carefully considering raw materials such as stone, metal, and wood. Interior updates focused on stripping down the layers of architectural and cosmetic changes to the building that had been added over the years, exposing and celebrating the original structure. Elements such as original trusses, a vaulted brick ceiling, and concrete beams set the backdrop for the introduction of a variety of custom contemporary art installations by local artists.
