IIDA New England Design Awards: Community & Culture

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) of New England held their annual design awards in September. Christine Burdick Design is honored to have been selected for the “Community & Culture” award for our pro-bono project with non-profit Spectrum Youth & Family Services, updating their Burlington, VT drop-in center. Spectrum’s mission is to empower teenagers, young adults, and their families to make and sustain positive changes through prevention, intervention, and life skills services. The drop-in center provides under-privileged and at-risk youth ages 14-24 a place to eat a meal, shower, use a computer, and have other basic needs met. The ultimate project goal was a dignified, welcoming environment where youth and staff alike feel valued and safe. As a non-profit, Spectrum’s budget was limited. As an advocate for their important work, and through our conviction that everyone deserves good design, we utilized our resources within the design community to engage vendors to provide donations and discounts. We were honored to contribute our services at no cost for this important community space. Our hope in providing a thoughtful, intentional design tailored to the youth Spectrum serves is to convey that they matter and are deserving of beautiful spaces.

NSB Art

We came across Vermont fiber Artist, Sienna Matz by chance at NeoCon in Chicago this year. As a local maker and creator of dynamic, colorful artwork, we knew we wanted to include Sienna’s work in our project with Northfield Savings Bank on Church St. in Burlington. Kaitlin had a chance to sit down with Seven Days to discuss Sienna’s work. Read about it in this Seven Days story. Visit Siena’s website to learn more about her art.
